Update for Rory came in around a week ago from Emily. Rory is from Ernest and Bottie's litter of ten pup born December 2020.
"Hi Jane,
I hope you’re well. I though I’d send you a quick update about how Rory is doing 3 weeks on.
He’s such a lovely boy, and has quickly become a local celebrity. We don’t get very far on our carry walks as everyone wants to stop us and ask about him. They always comment on his lovely curly ears. He’s met a few neighbours through the garden fence too and has been very gentle and friendly.
I’ve not managed to work at my desk much since getting Rory, his favourite spot to sleep is next to me on the sofa, so I mostly end up working from the sofa now. My colleagues love seeing him on video calls. He’s doing very well with toiletting outside most of the time now, and can now sleep through the night until 7:30! He’s also improved on his eating, and will finish most of a bowl at each meal.
He’s a clever boy, he’s mastered “sit”, and his recall is getting there! He’s also getting there with the command “touch” to touch his nose to my palm, and “lay down”.
In training sessions he will sometimes give me a frustrated woof or growl, but on the whole, he’s very eager to please and learn new things. When he growls he’s wagging. Would you say this is out of excitement, or do you think I might be doing something wrong? It doesn’t seem aggressive at all. He’s a very chatty boy, and always has something to say.
We’re so pleased with him, we couldn’t imagine life without his waggy tail now! We can’t wait to start having walking adventures too. Our vets do 4 weeks between injections, so we still have a way to go until we can go out on walks.
We hope you and the Poundlane pack are all doing well, exciting news about Rosie and Ernest!
Warm regards,
Emily, Emily and Rory"
"Hello Emily,
good to hear from you and to hear how Rory is getting on. The growling depends on the growl. It sounds like it most probably is excitement. Dogs also growl when enjoying doing something or anticipating something they enjoy happening. This article might help Types of Dog Growl & What Your Dog Is Trying to Tell You .I used to have a Cavalier boy Pupster who growled with pleasure when being rubbed on his back. He loved being rubbed so much, he would reverse into your legs and start rubbing against them as a que for you to rub him and he would rubbly growl with pleasure.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Jane"
